Notre Dame students get buddied up for Down Syndrome

Students from The University of Notre Dame Australia, Sydney Campus enjoyed a very special walk on Sunday with a new group of friends, acting as officials for the Down Syndrome Association NSW Buddy Walk. Eleven Notre Dame Students assisted with the running of the walk, which is run annually as part of Down Syndrome Awareness Week. The students acted as road officials along the route from Milson’s Point to Mrs Macquarie’s Chair, then enjoyed a BBQ lunch with walkers and other volunteers. First year Arts student, Andrew Brooks, said the day was a very enjoyable experience. “The highlights included the opportunity to meet new people, a fun day out in the sun and that is was all to support a good cause,” said Mr Brooks. The walk is designed to celebrate the achievements of people with Down Syndrome and to encourage the wider community to do the same. Campus Life Officer, Brendon McKeon, said all the students were committed to supporting such a worthy cause. “After being involved with the inaugural walk last year, it was a real pleasure to support the event again this year. All the students thoroughly enjoyed the day, and are looking forward to supporting this wonderful event in the future,” said Mr McKeon.
