Notre Dame Broome Campus Hosts \u27A French Australia? Almost!\u27 Exhibition

The University of Notre Dame Australia’s Broome Campus library gallery space played host to Australian, historian, Mrs Noelene Bloomfield’s exhibition entitled ‘A French Australia?’ Almost!’ from September 1 to 11. Mrs Bloomfield is the Research Fellow in European Languages and Studies at The University of Western Australia and has travelled extensively throughout France investigating those who left a lasting footprint on Australia’s history. The exhibition, sponsored by The University of Notre Dame Australia, clearly illustrates how close Australia came to being part of France. The exhibition portrays the effect the French had on Australia, particularly the western half of the continent, where 260 of the more than 400 French names on the Australia coastline can be found. More than 40 people attended the opening of the exhibition including Kimberley MLA Carol Martin and Broome Shire President Graeme Campbell. After the successful Broome tour, ‘A French Australia? Almost!’ will be on display at The University of Notre Dame Australia’s Fremantle Campus from October 10 to November 3
