Francisco Gómez de Valencia, un pintor del siglo XVII entre Granada y México

The painting workshop of the Gómez de Valencia family was one of the most active in the city of Granada during the second half of the 17th century, as is evidenced by the contemporaneous documentation and the preserved artwork. In this article we reconstruct the relevance of this workshop by focusing on the character of Francisco, who went to Mexico seeking recognition and prestige of his art. We are providing new information about his eventful life, based on previously unpublished documentary sources and the study of a previously unknown canvas that allows us to increase the catalogue of his work.El taller de pintura de la familia Gómez de Valencia fue uno de los más activos de la ciudad de Granada durante la segunda mitad del siglo XVII; la documentación de la época y las obras conservadas así lo acreditan. En este artículo reconstruimos la relevancia de dicho taller centrándonos en la figura de Francisco, quien marchó a México buscando reconocimiento y prestigio en su arte. De su azarosa vida aportamos nuevos datos con base en fuentes documentales inéditas y estudiamos un lienzo desconocido que permite incrementar el catálogo de su obra
