Ushul an-nahwi is the science that examines al-adillah an-nahwiyah (source of law in nahwu), procedures for issuing nahwu rules, and thoroughly discusses both in terms of the arguments, the method of istinbat in these propositions, as well as the application with aladillah an-nahwiyah. What is meant by al-adillah an-nahwiyah are: sama', qiyas, ijma', istishab, and istihsan. Usul an-Nahwi first appeared in the 4th century H by Ibn As-Sarraj, then was popularized by Ibn Jinni, then in the 6th century H it was raised again by AlAnbari. The term ushul an-nahwi appears a lot among nahwu scholars and is inspired by scientific discourses developed by fiqh or ushul fikh scholars
