Temporomandibular disorder (TMD) is a term that includes different conditions involving the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), the masticatory muscles and their associated tissues (e.g. ligaments, connective tissues) that represents a clinical problem such as pain, limited movements of the jaw and ATM noises. Several studies on different aspects have been conducted to improve the understanding, diagnosis and management of this patient population. Some TMD symptoms do not seem to be directly related to the problem, which makes diagnosis difficult and takes even longer.
