Objective. To identify internal and external incentives and inhibitors affecting the export activity of small and medium-sized Mexican firms. Methodology. The study is founded on a comprehensive documentary review of scientific journal articles in whichthe most relevant information pertaining to the topic of study was identified, selected, and analyzed. Results. Financial strength, technological innovation, brand certification, productive capacity, knowledge of the external market, and external support for exporting were identified as the main export incentives.
