Although job satisfaction has received considerable attention during most of the last century, it is still surprising how fragmented this field of studies is and how limited the efforts for integration have been. With the aim of identifying the key factors that have been suggested as key antecedents of job satisfaction in the empirical literature, we conduct a review of relevant research studies published in high-impact journals in the last two decades. Our findings reveal that research considering both dispositional and situational antecedents of job satisfaction is still very limited.
