Integration or segmentation of foreign-born workers in the labour market? : some evidence from Spain

El proceso de recepción de inmigrantes es uno de los fenómenos económicos y sociales más transcendentes que están teniendo lugar actualmente en nuestro país, tanto por su magnitud como por la importancia de sus efectos. Por ello, el artículo analiza los resultados laborales a los que acceden los inmigrantes como resultado de sus decisiones de migración. Su objetivo es averiguar si los inmigrantes, una vez que llegan a España y se incorporan a nuestro mercado de trabajo, muestran pautas de integración laboral o, contrariamente, de segmentación en el mercado de trabajo. Como estrategia se trata de averiguar si las pautas laborales de los inmigrantes tienden a asimilarse a las de los nacionales al acumular tiempo de residencia en nuestro país o, por el contrario, persisten en sus diferencias iniciales, mostrando señales de confinamiento. Para ello se lleva a cabo un análisis de cohortes con datos de la Encuesta de Población Activa.The reception of immigrants is one of the most important economic and social events currently occurring in the Spanish labour market, due to their magnitude and the importance of their effects. For that reason, this paper analyzes the labor situation of immigrants as a result of their decisions of migration. Our objective is to find out if the immigrants, once they arrive to Spain and they are gotten up to our labour market, show some patterns of labour integration or, on the contrary, of labour segmentation. Our strategy is to find out if the labour patterns of the immigrants trend to assimilate the national patterns when accumulating time of residence in our country or to persist the initial differences showing signals of confinement. For it, this paper is carried out an analysis of cohorts with data of the Spanish Survey of Active Population (EPA - Encuesta de Población Activa)
