Around 500,000 people grew up in institutional ‘care’ in Australia during the first half of the 20th century. Many experienced abuse and neglect as children and have lived with the ongoing legacy of complex trauma. As adults, who are now ageing, this group are entering other institutions such as aged care facilities and hospitals, which can be highly challenging, bringing the potential for re-traumatisation. This webinar introduces evidence-based knowledge on the impacts of childhood trauma in care and the lived experience of these people, who are referred to as Forgotten Australians and/or Care Leavers.
