現在の箱根観光会館跡地辺りから早川渓谷の上流を見上げた構図。正面の建物は、明治20年頃開業した新玉の湯である。塔ノ沢村の総代堀貞蔵が、玉の湯旅館を読売新聞社主子安峻に譲渡し、新たに建設したもの。左手の道は、明治20年(1887)に開通した塔ノ沢・宮ノ下間の車道で、国道一号線となった。Looking upstream the Hayakawa Valley from approximately where the old Hakone Tourist Bureau was located. The building in the centre is Shin-Tamanoyu Inn, opened around 1887. Teizo Hori, the representative of Tonosawa Village, gave Tamanoyu Inn to Takashi Koyasu, the owner of the Yomiuri Newspaper, who built Shin (New)-Tamanoyu Inn. The street on the left, for cart traffic, opened between Tonosawa and Miyanoshita in 1887. This road eventually became part of National Route 1
