We have made two software systems available on ARCHER2 to enhance the ways in which researchers can respond to uncertainty in models. We have ported the OptClim2 software to permit researchers to optimise parameters in three Earth system models: CESM, MITgcm-based models and UKESM. We have developed “particle filtering” (PF) software for UKESM to allow an ensemble of runs to track historical data. The OptClim2 and PF systems are currently being trialled with UKESM; OptClim2 is also available for first research use with MITgcm or CESM. The development for UKESM was complicated by the need to communicate from ARCHER2 to the NCAS-provided server that runs UKESM workflow.
