ABSTRACT The geographical names registered as Protected Designations of Origin (PDOs) and Protected Geographical Indications (PGIs) receive, under regulations on quality schemes for agricultural products and foodstuff and grapevine products (Regulations EU Nos 1151/2012 and 1308/2013), an almost absolute protection. It consists of a prohibition on the use and the evocation of the certified name provided not only for the so-called “similar products”, but also for products non-comparable to those benefitting from PDO or PGI, provided that the conduct of the third party reflects an exploitation of the reputation of the protected name.
