Quercus robur Linnaeus 1753

Quercus robur Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 2: 996. 1753. "Habitat in Europa." RCN: 1220. Lectotype (Jonsell & Jarvis in Jarvis & al., Regnum Veg. 127: 80. 1993): Herb. Burser XXII: 93 (UPS). Generitype of Quercus Linnaeus (vide Green, Prop. Brit. Bot.: 189. 1929). Current name: Quercus robur L. (Fagaceae). Note: Jonsell & Jarvis (in Nordic J. Bot. 14: 153. 1994) discuss the reasons for their 1993 choice of type. Brullo & al. (in Webbia 54: 55. 1999) accepted 1128.30 (LINN) as type, wrongly attributing the choice to Hedge & Yaltirik in Davis, Fl. Turkey 7: 663 (1982). This is in any case a Kalm collection from North America (not Europe as indicated in the protologue), and is identifiable as Q. alba L.
