Fang He Tube-nosed Bat Murina fanjingshanensis French: Murine du Fanjing / German: Fangjingshan-Rohrennase / Spanish: Ratonero narizudo de Fanjing Other common names: Fanjingshan Tube-nosed Bat Taxonomy. Murina fanjingshanensis He Fang, Xiao Ning & ZhouJiang, 2015, “in an abandoned gold mine of Luojiawan village, Wuluo town, Songtao County (1069 m, 28° 01 '09.77 "N, 108° 45' 37.34"E), located in the east of the FNNR in Guizhou Province, China.” See M. leucogaster. Monotypic. Distribution. Known from two localities in Guizhou and Hunan, SE China. Descriptive notes. Head-body 43-253- 8 mm, tail 38- 6-46. 7 mm, ear 12-5—- 15 mm, hindfoot 9- 4-10 mm, forearm 40-2- 41- 4 mm. Fur is thick and fluffy; dorsally reddish brown (hairs short and gray, intermixed with longer dark brown with reddish-tipped guard hairs); ventrally yellow, most intense on chest and becoming browner near sides (hairs light yellow with orangeyellow tip). Dorsal fur extends onto base of wings, uropatagium, thumbs, and feet, and there is a well-developed fringe of hairs around margin of uropatagium. Dark face mask around eyes, muzzle, and lower forehead, and face is furred except long, protuberant nostrils, which are naked. Ears are oval, with smoothly convex anterior margins, distinct notch on posterior margin, and rounded tip; tragus is long, narrow, and tapering toward pointed tip, with slightly convex anterior margin, concave posterior margin, and basal notch, and it curves outwards slightly. Wing attaches close to middle of first toe. Skull is robust and domed; rostrum is robust; narial emargination is roughly as long as it is wide; sagittal and lambdoidal crests are weakly developed. Upper tooth row is shorter than lower one; I? is bifid with second cusp about astall as I°. Habitat. Type locality was surrounded by bamboo groves growing along a stream. Recorded at elevations of 1213 m in Hunan and 1069 m in Guizhou. Food and Feeding. No information. Breeding. No information. Activity patterns. The type specimen was found roosting in an abandoned gold mine. A hibernating individual was captured in March, roosting in a cave in Hunan. Movements, Home range and Social organization. The Fang He Tube-nosed Bat has been reported roosting alone or in small groups of 2-3 individuals. Status and Conservation. Not assessed on The IUCN Red List, due to its recent recognition as a species. The Fang He Tube-nosed Bat is currently known from only four specimens at two localities.
