The essence of the construction sector and its place in the country's economy is substantiated. The leading role of the construction sector in achieving the strategic goals of socio-economic development is outlined. Approaches to innovative re-equipment of the construction sector and priority areas of its infrastructure development are described. Strategic tasks for the development of scientific potential in construction are identified. Ways to improve the quality of training in the construction sector are proposed. The construction sector faces long-term systemic challenges that reflect both global trends and domestic barriers to development. It is, first of all, about strengthening global competition; a new wave of technological change, which strengthens the role of innovation; the growing role of human capital as a major factor in economic development; exhaustion of the potential of the export-raw material model of economic development of Ukraine; the presence of high administrative barriers; artificial shortage of land resources; insufficient development of transport and engineering infrastructure, as well as the shortage of qualified engineering and construction personnel. Solving large-scale economic problems, the construction sector requires the search for optimal technical, technological and organizational solutions that have a multiplier effect for the whole economy. At the same time, the development of the construction sector should be ensured by an adequate socially oriented state policy for the implementation of highly effective organizational and economic, regulatory, institutional and informational measures, as well as innovative initiatives of participants and contractors of the construction sector. priorities and mechanisms of its development. It is necessary to create a system of independent assessment of qualifications of specialists in the sector. An important element in improving the quality of their training is the independent assessment of competencies acquired in the learning process. In order to staff the performance of works that affect the safety of capital construction projects, it is necessary to provide by law for the organization to have certified employees in accordance with the requirements of professional standards. It is necessary to develop and legislate the sequence and periods of obtaining certificates, as well as the procedure for assessing compliance with accepted professional standards for professionals. Innovative development of the construction sector requires fundamentally new approaches to the development of human resources, taking into account the professions that will be in demand in the construction sector of Ukraine in the long run.
