School of Chemistry, Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta GA 30332, U.S.A Reaetions of (COD)PtCl2, with tertiary phosphine ligands in methanol have been studies by 31P nmr spectroscopy. The formation of cationic complex [(COD) PtCIL]+CL-(L=Pr\(_3^i\)P, Ph2But P, Bu\(_2^t\)MeP, Cy3P and Bu\(_3^t\)P) as the only product in the equimolar reaction between (COD)PtCI2 and tertiary psosphines has been defined. r. e. reaction of (COD)PtCI2 with two mole equivalent of tertiary phosphine formation.of various intermediate complexes including [C8H1 2OCH3 )PtCIL] by the nucleophilic attack of methoxyl-amion on the coordinated cyclo-octadiene Has been observed
