The reaction of Pt(PPh3)2(C2H4) with 1,5-R4P2N4S2 (R = Ph, Et, Me) in toluene at 23-degrees-C produces the monomeric complexes Pt(PPh3)2(1,5-R4P2N4S2) (2a, R = Ph; 2b, R = Et; 2c, R = Me) as air-stable yellow solids, which were characterized by P-31 NMR and, in the case of 2a, Pt-195 NMR spectroscopy. The X-ray structure of 2a.CH2Cl2 shows that the heterocyclic ligand is bonded to platinum in an eta(2)-S,S' fashion with Pt-S distances of 2.408 (4) angstrom, respectively, and approximately square planar coordination at platinum.
