SETTLED INTO QUICKSILVER: A CHOREOGRAPHIC PROCESS

Choreography plays a major role in the dance community. Most ballets, concert pieces, and competition pieces are all created through a choreographic process. There is a specific place a dancer should be on stage, an arm or head movement that needs to be set with the timing of the music, or a story that needs to be told consistently. And with choreography, comes a choreographer(s) that is behind the creativity. Each choreographer works differently within the space and the interaction between creator and dancer varies. For my senior honors project, under the guidance of Professor Lisa D. Long, I explored my own choreographic process. More specifically, I researched and applied other choreographers' processes into my own. I wanted to see if understanding choreography on the professional side made it easier for me to conceptualize a full scale production. Because I plan to be a dance teacher someday, discovering this process was important to me as it establishes the starting point of my career. I explored everything starting from an idea to a full scale production consisting of 20 minutes worth of dancing entitled “Settled Into Quicksilver.” I have learned how to collaborate with other artists professionally and gained knowledge on what my personal choreographic process looks like
