The Contribution of Isaac Berkovych and Mykola Silvanskyi to the Development of Ukrainian Music Pedagogy

The purpose of the article is to reveal the main achievements of outstanding figures of music culture, art, and pedagogy Isaak Berkovych and Mykola Silvanskyi in terms of their approach to modern children and youth audiences, with certain amendments and remarks. Research methodology. In the process of revealing the presented issues, the following methods are used: within the frameworks of the historical and cultural method, the contribution of Isaak Berkovych and Mykola Silvanskyi to the development of the Ukrainian piano school and music pedagogy is evaluated; the comparative method made it possible to compare and correlate the creative and pedagogical achievements of artists with the development of music culture, the piano school, and general pedagogical approaches that were inherent in domestic music pedagogy at different times, especially in the 20th century; the synchronous method contributes to the assessment of the style and genre palette, means, and forms of piano technique, directions, and trends of compositional activity that unfolded in the music culture of Ukraine in the second half of the 20th century; the diachrony method allows considering these phenomena of musical activity in historical and cultural time. The scientific novelty is developed in a retrospective review of the achievements of Isaak Berkovych and Mykola Silvanskyi in the field of piano creative work and performance, music pedagogy, which appeared in Ukraine in the second half of the 20th century. Prospects for further research on the specified topic lie in the significance of the realities of Ukrainian culture (music, in particular) and its post-war future, in which the involvement of children and youth in the art of music is of great importance. The conclusions to the article contain positions that reveal the creative path of these prominent figures of national culture; themes, forms, and content of piano works dedicated to the world of childhood; project the possibilities of applying the creative work and methodology of these masters in the realities of today’s Ukraine and its post-war future
