The Work of the Composer Mykola Lastovetskyi in the Context of the Musical Life of the City of Drohobych

The purpose of the article is to study the creative work of the modern Ukrainian composer Mykola Lastovetskyi through the prism of the musical infrastructure of Drohobych town. Research methodology. An analytical methodological principle was used in the analysis of specific examples of socio and cultural inspirations and artistic needs of Drohobych residents. Results. It is emphasised that in the town of Drohobych, Lviv region, there is a developed musical infrastructure, which began to form at the end of the 19th century, in accordance with the social, cultural and artistic needs of the inhabitants of the region. The city’s modern musical infrastructure provides conditions for optimal implementation of performing, composing, educational, touring-concert, cultural-organizing, artistic-social, and sheet music publishing activities. The direct influence of the city’s musical infrastructure on Mykola Lastovetskyi’s creative work is noted. A significant part of the artist's works was written “by order” of Drohobych residents, which was of different nature: from personal, the community of the city (the cantata Return of Drohobych was written on the occasion of the opening of the monument to Yurii Drohobych; the cantata Song about Chornovil was timed to the opening of the monument to Viacheslav Chornovil), to religious (the cantata Psalms of David was created to the opening of the monument to the 2000th anniversary of the Nativity of Christ), and theatrical. In particular, three dedicated cantatas (The Return of Drohobych, The Song of Chornovil, Psalms of David), symphonic, choral, piano and chamber-instrumental compositions, music for the theater, multi-genre works on words of local poets. The city’s active festival-competition movement led to the need to write a number of works for special performers (Iryna Lemekh, Yana Gordelianova (Vashchuk) and others). The scientific novelty is both the analytical perspective of the article and the application of the category of infrastructure to the musical work of a modern Ukrainian composer, in connection with regional artistic needs and social and cultural traditions of the Drohobych region
