Cockspur (Echinochloa crus-galli) is a type of wild grass that originates from tropical Africa and Asia. Cockspur is considered one of the world’s worst weeds. It reduces crop yields and causes forage crops. Cockspur is very difficult to remove. Cockspur has been introduced to Norway by bird feed, ballast and seeds. Cockspur has been reported in Norway for many years. More recently it has become a serious problem to farmers, especially in the counties of Østfold and Vestfold. In order to decide on appropriate measures, the NFSA requests VKM to conduct a risk assessment of cockspur as well as an overview of possible measures to prevent cockspur from spreading even further.NO; en; vkm@vkm.n
