La proposta di direttiva sui salari minimi adeguati nella prospettiva di contrasto all'in-work poverty

Objectives: The essay aims to examine the implications on the issue of combating in- work poverty of the recent Proposal for a Directive on adequate minimum wages. Methodology: Being a typically multi-disciplinary issue, in-work poverty is considered from a legal, economic and sociological perspective. Results: The essay argues for a teleological interpretation of the provisions of the proposed Directive and highlights its inconsistencies with respect to the Italian system of minimum wage determination. Limits and implications: The essay does not address the fundamental problems of com- patibility of the proposed Directive with the framework arising from the Treaties, es- pecially in terms of subsidiarity and Member States’ competence. Originality: Com- pared to the existing literature, the essay shows the need to investigate the complex issue of in-work poverty from a variety of disciplinary perspectives
