Boosting national urban policies by European integration. The case of Poland.

The chapter discuss national urban policy as one of the policy areas which has been most ‘affected’ by the adaptation and absorption of EU goals and procedures and transfer of know-how. It has undergone changes along an intellectual path extending from support for general aims, through removing barriers to development, to a conditional and differentiated place-based policy that addresses the strengths and weaknesses of different types of territory. The chapter analyses the development of contemporary Polish urban policy and its main challenges. The authors discuss in details three thematic areas of special relevance to current global situation: climate change policy, metropolitan agenda and urban renewal policy
