The bronze tablet of Lyon has long raised numerous questions. It preserves the original text of the senatus consultimi, initiated by emperor Claudius, granting the ius honorum to some Gallic aristocrats. This paper reexamines the epigraphic evidence and compares it with Tacitus' report on the subject. In this way the essay explores the controversial issues at stake and proposes some plausible solutions.
