Three territories in Ireland have acquired the status of national symbols : the West, the Border and Dublin. This paper argues that these three territories have eclipsed all other spaces in the Republic. This phenomenon can be observed not only in the area of cultural studies - despite their attempts to avoid a pre-constructed discourse - but also in the field of economics and in town and country planning. If the latter sphere undoubtedly recognizes the existence of two Ire lands - one rich, one poor - the way in which the country is divided up for development purposes demonstrates the keen interest in political circles for these three highly symbolic territories.Trois territoires de l'Irlande ont acquis le statut de symbole national : l'Ou...
