This paper puts forward the hypothesis that Brendan Behan's drama may be best accounted for in terms of the ritual pattern of the traditional Irish wake. The wake determines the rhythm of the action, the conception of the character and the ritual coherence of Behan's plays. Witoszek Walentyna. The Funeral Comedy of Brendan Behan.
