Abstract. - Loams cover widely the glacial piedmonts of Chile between 38 and 41° South. Several generations of deposits are observed, through three quaternary Andean glaciations. The section at Coipue, near Villarica, is studied especially. 17 ash fall layers are to be counted, representing the last interglacial and glacial epoch (Llanquihue, equivalent of Wisconsin). On the whole of the country, three kinds of soils may be distinguished : red clayey soils, with métahalloysite and fire-clay, on pre-Mindel ashes ; meta- halloysitic and allophanic soils on Sangamon ashes ; allophanic soils on Llanquihue-Wisconsin and postglacial ashes.Résumé. - Un ample manteau de limons couvre les piémonts glaciaires chiliens entre le 38° et le 41 ° de latit...
