In the history of Bourges archbishops, a benedictine monk, Benoit Vernier, transcribed the oldest synodal statutes of Bourges. The archbischop Jean Cœur, the son of Charles VII's treasurer, published them in 1451, not long after his consecration. These articles pointed out the most urgent problems for the diocese. They did not contain any theological development but dealt with the current problems : religious assistance to sick persons, weddings, baptisms, action against foreign collectors. Through these articles, Jean Cœur chiefly fought against his rectors, and his own officers, the archpriests, who tried to find their independance.
