The theaters from the classical period found in Attica (at Thorikos, Ikarion, Euonymon and Rhamnus) and in the NE Peloponnesos (at Corinth, Argos and Isthmia) appear as a pattern for the reconstruction of the theater in the sanctuary of Dionysos Eleuthéreus at Athens. The koilon was pi-shaped, with branches wich were perhaps asymmetric and divergent. It included a prohedria in stone, in form of a simple step, and about forty-five wooden benches mounted on scaffolding. A stage-building of one story was erected for performances in front of the central section of the koilon. It had no second floor, but a terasse roof which was practicable during performances.
