"Does Comparison Amount to Reason ?" Away from a narrow understanding of the field of literature studies, this article discusses the role of the metaphor-understood in its broad, etymological sense as a way of connecting two categories of meaning- in texts of arguments as well as in essay writing. The metaphor is not only a poetical figure ; it is a principle of organization for texts which often seem not to express a logical thought but to investigate all the opportunities which the analogy has to offer.
