Foreigners and new immigrants in relation to the size of agglomerations. Foreigners, in the March 1982 general census of population, amounted to 6,8 % of the total population of metropolitan France. 91 % of them lived in urban areas, two out of three in an agglomeration of 100000 or more inhabitants, one out of three in the Paris agglomeration. Seven communities: Algerians (805000), Portuguese (767000), Moroccans (441000), Italians (340000), Spaniards (327000), Tunisians (191000) and Turks (122000) represent 80,6 % of the foreigners living in France. New immigrants have the same score in the urban areas as foreigners on a whole. Nevertheless, the Paris agglomeration is more attractive to the new immigrants, 37,3% of them as compared to 32,7 % for the total foreign population.La population étrangère qui, au recensement général de la population de mars 1982, représentait 6,8 % de la population totale de la France métropolitaine, réside à 91 % en milieu urbain. Deux étrangers sur trois vivent dans une unité urbaine de 100000 habitants ou plus (dont un sur trois dans l'agglomération de Paris). Sept nationalités (Algériens, Portugais, Marocains, Italiens, Espagnols, Tunisiens et Turcs) comptent chacune plus de 100000 ressortissants en France et représentent à elles seules 80,6% de l'ensemble des étrangers. Les nouveaux immigrés ont la même répartition urbaine - rurale que l'ensemble des étrangers; toutefois, l'agglomération de Paris compte 37,3 % des nouveaux immigrés contre 32,7% pour la population étrangère totale.Hémery Solange.
