This paper, mainly based on literary and epigraphical evidence, focuses on the presence of Cypriots in the Greek cities during the classical and hellenistic periods. In the first part are treated the different opinions of the ancient authors about the origin and character of the Cypriot population, a matter which has always been a controversial historiographical point. In the second part an analysis of the different aspects is offered concerning Cypriots in the Greek cities, focusing on their economic activities, their social status, the practice of their native cults and also on their gradual cultural assimilation.Raptou Eustathios.
