Le Peuplement de Chypre : apport des données anthropologiques

In Cyprus, the earliest human remains are dated from the Aceramic Neolithic period; they mostly come from the site of Khirokitia where the remains of 234 individuals, including a very large proportion of infants less than one year old, were uncovered. Their study pointed out some specificities regarding mortuary practices, demography, morphology and cultural practices. These specific features of the Cypriot Aceramic Neolithic population enlighten its originality in comparison with the contemporary populations from the surrounding areas and point out its homogeneity. Various hypotheses concerning its origin have been proposed according to the results of the anthropological study of the skeletons found by Dikaios at Khirokitia, between 1936 and 1946. These hypotheses are discussed, taking into account anthropological data from recent excavations at the site, reexamination of previous data and comparison with findings from other Cypriot sites (Cap Andreas Kastros and Kalavassos-Tenta).A Chypre, les plus anciens vestiges humains sont datés du Néolithique précéramique ; ils proviennent essentiellement du site de Khirokitia où les restes de 234 individus ont été mis au jour. Leur étude fait apparaître un certain nombre de particularités ayant trait aux pratiques funéraires, à la démographie, à la morphologie et aux pratiques culturelles. Ces caractéristiques, propres à la population néolithique précéramique chypriote, soulignent son originalité par rapport aux populations contemporaines des régions environnantes et traduisent son homogénéité.
