In Cyprus, the earliest human remains are dated from the Aceramic Neolithic period; they mostly come from the site of Khirokitia where the remains of 234 individuals, including a very large proportion of infants less than one year old, were uncovered. Their study pointed out some specificities regarding mortuary practices, demography, morphology and cultural practices. These specific features of the Cypriot Aceramic Neolithic population enlighten its originality in comparison with the contemporary populations from the surrounding areas and point out its homogeneity.
