According to the climate and energy package enacted in 2009, the European Union commits to a 20-20-20 target that includes increased share of EU energy consumption produced from renewable resources to 20% by 2020. This paper presents the Polish renewable energy market, its regulatory framework and main problems related to transformation from an economy based on conventional energy sources to sustainable ones. The authors analyze how the social and institutional contexts need to evolve in order to facilitate the mainstreaming of sustinable energy technologies
