In extra/high-voltage power systems, electromagnetic transient phenomena (e.g. from switching events) are analysed by time-domain simulation based on Electromagnetic Transient Program-type simulation tools. For the particular combined power cable–overhead line studied in this paper, it can be time-consuming especially if the effect of design parameters are studied systematically. A tailored solution based on solving the system's impedance and admittance matrix in frequency domain can serve as alternative approach.
