Since 1990, the emergence of market economies has forced Eastern and Central European countries to adopt bankruptcy laws. Traditionally, Czech and Hungarian laws were modeled on German law ; Romanian laws, on the Napoleonic code ; and Polish laws on both German and French law. Hungarian and Romanian laws have recently undergone an American influence.
