Summary. — In his Histoire des marchands sogdiens (the published version of his Ph.D. thesis) E. de la Vaissière presents a description of the international trade and financial structures of the Sogdian trading networks, from the beginning of the Christian Era to the downfall of their influence owing to the rise of Islamic powers and to the destruction of the Sogdian homeland and cultural center (mainly Samarcand and Bukhara).
