SANDRINE VINCENT Toys as the Center of Family Educational Strategies Based on a survey’s results concerning the social uses of toys, this article analyzes the importance of the toy in familial strategies in education. It shows the way that parents use the toy throughout the school years and the meanings that parents assess to it. This object, which at first appears to be unrelated to the educational process, is actually a learning tool for the middle and upper social classes and a tool for applying academic pressure on children for the lower classes.
