This master's thesis investigates the dynamics at the flanks of the Earth's magnetosphere using numerical simulations based on the fluid approach to plasma physics. The solar wind's interaction with our planet's magnetosphere creates particle transport at the interface between the two plasmas, facilitated by magnetic reconnection and Kelvin-Helmholtz instability (KHI). This work presents two simulations analyzing the effects of different initial configurations of the magnetic field orientation of the two plasmas on the latitudinal distribution of KH-induced vortices and magnetic reconnection sites.
