Little research in France is directly concerned with the estimation of the rate of diffusion of technical progress and the speed with which animal produce markets, especially beef-production, are set up. The paper presented here is, thus, exploratory. It does not dwell on the question of localization. After having shown the ambiguity of what is known as a cattle-breeding model, we intend to examine the manner in which diffusion of specialised types of activities depends on the degree of control attained on the technical and economic levels.
