The Population Will Age More Than Anticipated - Do the first 1990 census results question the geographic forecasts made by INSEE in 1985? The fertility rate which was observed is not far from that hypothesized to be 1.8 children per woman, but this is not the case for mortality trends. Among the 1985 scenarios, the one which actually occurred seems to be that of a low mortality rate. In the medium terms, the drop in the mortality rate and the rise in life expectancy will have little effect on the population under sixty years old.
