The French Mortality at Great Ages: Are we going towards a Levelling of the Geographical Disparities? This article deals with mortality geographic disparities after the age of 65 and their evolution between 1962 and 1982. As for males, for instance, the three years of Life expectancy at the age of 65 which separated the first department from the last one in 1982 amount to the benefits that have been realized since World War II. Moreover, whatever the sex, the variability of departmental situations decreases, as we go up the scale of ages, that is to say as endogenous causes supplant exagenous ones.
