So far subalpine lakes have seldom and only very partially been taken into account in the paleoclimatological study of the Postglacial period. Research in that field was until now essentially limited to palynological soundings or, more recently, to analyses of paleotemperatures (O¹⁸ ..). A paradoxical situation considering that, since the early years of the 20th century, the study of lake-dwelling (settlements on firm ground or on piles) has been closely connected with climatic evolution during the Neolithic period and Protohistory.
