Transition in central europe : an assessment and suggestions for alternatives Hungary, Poland, Czechoslovakia (Central European countries) are considered as faring better than other post-communist countries. However they also experienced a drop in output, did not entirely succeed in stabilizing their economies, and the pace of structural transformation is slow. Is it a normal outcome of transition ? Could one apply alternative policies ?
