W. Adams and J. Dirlam - Protectionism and the U.S. Steel Industry. In view of the actual tendencies towards protectionnism, several questions are raised as regards the consequences of the process by which the protectionnistic moves of oligopolies or similar market structures are creating world cartels. This process is clearly shown by the case study of the U.S. Steel Industry. The quotas, and more specifically the market arrangements and volontary restraints agreements are the main weapons used for the protection of the poligopoly. But the costs run high.W. Adams et J.
