SUMMARY The activities of the international organizations devoted to the study of population problems have already been examined in three articles published in Population. The present paper deals mainly with those connected with the Third World Population Conference which will be held in 1974. That year has been designated by the United Nations as the World Population Year. The General Secretary of the United Nations has asked all the governments to indicate how they intend to celebrate the World Popu- lotion Year. This question was discussed, in Geneva, by the Population Commission, in November 1971. The Third World Conference will consist of a meeting of delegates sent by the various governments to discuss population policies and to adopt a program for world action in this field. The Population Commission is in charge of preparing the Conference as well as the World Population Year. Technical seminars will be organized prior to the general meeting to know the opinion of qualified demographers. Basic documents will be prepared by independent experts and by those who belong to the large family of the United Nations. All this preliminary work will be summarized in five reports, each one focused on a particular topic : — Recent demographic trends and prospects. — Relations between demographic development and economic and social progress. — Relations between population and natural resources. — Population, family and human well-being. — Program for world action. To pave the way for the work of this conference, monographs are being prepared, dealing with the past and future evolution of the population of many countries. Booklets will be published to disseminate general information on demographic problems. Stamps will be issued and all the mass media, including radio and television are to be used to that effect.Trois articles ont été publiés dans cette revue, sur l'activité des Nations Unies et des organisations internationales en matière de population, les deux derniers en 1970 et 1971. Dans le dernier article, Mlle E. Garlot signalait brièvement l'adoption par l'Organisation des Nations Unies de résolutions aprouvant la tenue, en 1974, d'un 3e Congrès mondial de la Population et la proclamation de cette même année 1974, Année mondiale de la Population. A l'époque, seules les décisions de principe étaient prises ; les réalisations concrètes sont maintenant en vue. M. Jean Bourgeois-Pichat présente ici les derniers travaux et les projets en cours.SUMARIO La actividad de las ofganizaciones internacionales que tratan de población, estudiada ya très veces en la reviste Population, hace el objeto del estudio que lleva particularmente sobre el tercer Congreso mundial de la población en 1974. Este ano ha sido llamada рог la Organización de las naciones unidas « ano mundial de la población ». El secretario general de las Naciones ha preguntado a todos los Gobiernos como pensaban celebrar el ano mundial de la población y el asunto fué discutido por la Comision de la Población en Noviembre 1971 en Ginebra. Résulta que el tercer Congreso sera une reunion de delegados de los Gobiernos encargados de discutir de las polîticas de población. La Comisión de la población ha sido encargada de preparar el Congreso y el Ano mundial. De esos trabajos se sacarán cinco documentes para el Congreso que corresponden a los cinco temas escogidos : — Tendencias demográficas recientes y perspectivas. — Relation entre la evolución demográjica y el desarrollo econó- mico y social. — Relation entre la población y los recursos de la tierra. — La población, la jamilia y el bienestar del hombre. — Piano de action mundial de la población. El Congreso durará quince dias; no se sabe todavia en que ciudad tendra lugar. Ademâs del Congreso, se ha prévis to para el ano mundial la preparation, en muchos paises de una monografia sobre la evolution pasada y futura de la población, la publication de folletos de information demogrâfica, la emisión de sellos, una utilization importante de la Radio y de la Television.Bourgeois-Pichat Jean.
