Franco-Turkish Relations, by Nicole Gnesotto and Bassma Kodmani-Darwish Although both France and Turkey are members of NATO and of the Council of Europe as well as associates within the EEC, their relations are extremely strained. The human rights question and économie differences are of equal importance as bones of contention. But the greatest cause of bitterness between the two countries is the Armenian question, on which they are in total disagreement, and which makes any coopération very difficult. However, in marked contrast to their bilateral relations there are striking similarities of views between Paris and Ankara on many international questions.
