The author will examine how change within an organisation canbe faced with resistance from the organisation itself. By ‘theorganisation’ we do not mean the physical building, hospital oreven trust, but more the culture, policies and procedures—andthe senior staff who facilitate the running of the business. Whenchange is identified as necessary or desirable by those on theground, it is hard to accept why it is not embraced further up theorganisation. Understanding how and why resistance can buildup will help support staff to understand the issues and solve theproblems, thereby not giving up on delivering successful change
