Background: Cardiopulmonary bypass during cardiac surgery leads to impaired microcirculatory perfusion. We hypothesized that vascular leakage is an important contributor to microcirculatory dysfunction. Imatinib, a tyrosine kinase inhibitor, has been shown to reduce vascular leakage in septic mice.
