This design includes the navy, red, and gold reminiscent of the original Utah state flag. The diagonals meeting in the middle represent the cultures and ideas of the people of our state all meeting here in the spirit of coming together for the greater good. The yellow shapes of the compass rose come from the human shaped petroglyphs at Horseshoe Canyon, reminding us of our past and those who lived in the land before modern times and also of the meeting of all kinds of people from different directions and walks of life coming together to become one-all Utahns. The circle with the crossed lines in the middle not only represents the wheels of pioneers, but also an ancient pictogram for "the meeting of paths." The compass rose is representative of knowing the way, the direction the state is headed: cultures and ideas melding as one in the middle and then going forth from this place to make the world a better place. The Top blue triangle represents our skies and our lakes, the bottom blue triangle represents our mountains-where the skies/heavens meet the earth-and the two red triangles represent our great and beautiful deserts
